All the fishable rivers are blown, at least in our neck of the woods. Muddy torrents of angry brown water make it not as fun to fish. So, to cure my insatiable quest to cast a fly, I’m headed to the the Glacier Outdoor Center this weekend for the first-ever Glacier Anglers Cast-Off in West Glacier, MT.
Tomorrow is the first-ever certified fly-casting instruction and competition at the Glacier Outdoor Center. This is a FREE event full of casting instruction, fishing seminars and a chance to qualify for the All Cast National Fly Casting Championships. This event is open for all ages and abilities–so don’t be intimidated if you are a beginner, or if you have been fishing your entire life—there will be something there for you!
The day starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Ridgetop Retreat with a couple of hours of fishing seminars led by pros from the Glacier Angler staff, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and Montana Fly Co.
Class topics include:
Beyond Bugs: Fly selection and river ecology
Trout Hunting: Reading water and putting your fly where the fish are
From Nets to Knots: Choosing the right equipment and tying it all together
Participants will then get on-site casting instruction at GOC’s four stocked fishing ponds. The All Cast certified qualifier casting competition will begin at 2:00 p.m. and is open for all ages. Competition includes tests in accuracy and distance and is divided into three groups; Masters, Open and Youth (14 and under). There are some sweet prizes and raffle items!
Everything is FREE with donations accepted for the Flathead Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Food and beverage vendors will also be on-site to make sure we are fed and happy. For more information please call 1-800-235-6781 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Holler and see you tomorrow fishy Flathead friends!
